About Idiot Color Tools

Idiot Color Tools is a free, single-purpose toolkit built for one job: making color and design decisions faster. Every tool on this site — from the palette generator to the WCAG contrast checker — focuses on a specific, everyday task that designers and front-end developers run into constantly, and does that one job well.

Why we built this

Most "online tools" sites try to cover dozens of unrelated categories — PDF tools, unit converters, color tools, and text tools all mixed together. We took a different approach: a single, focused category, done thoroughly. That means 35 color and design tools that share a consistent design, a consistent way of exporting results, and a consistent commitment to running entirely in your browser.

How the tools work

Every tool on Idiot Color Tools is built with plain client-side JavaScript. When you generate a palette, check a contrast ratio, or extract colors from an image, that computation happens locally in your own browser — nothing you type or upload is ever transmitted to a server. This makes the tools fast, keeps your work private, and means they keep working even if our servers are ever slow or unavailable.

Who it's for

Front-end developers who need a quick HEX-to-HSL conversion. Designers building out a brand palette. Product teams checking a UI against WCAG accessibility guidelines. Hobbyists building a personal website who just want a favicon that doesn't look terrible. If your work touches color or CSS, there's very likely a tool here for you.
